Meet the Primigos: Resh Vamathevn, Senior BD Manager, Strategic Enterprises

6 min read

Primer is powered by an incredible team of smart, driven people shaping the future of payments. In this Q&A series, we’re introducing you to the talent behind the scenes, starting with Resh Vamathevn, who has been with us for four years.

Resh began his career in business development, working in marketing and advertising to help major brands connect with agencies. However, his career changed when he entered the world of mobile payments after advising brands on how to use mobile payments to convert engaged customers.

“The rise of in-app payments was huge at the time, and I got hooked on the industry. I wanted to know everything about how payments worked and immerse myself in the space. From there, I worked across FX, open banking, and even merchant-side roles with a major ground transport company. When I saw what Primer was building, I knew I had to be part of it.”

Four years later, that passion hasn’t faded. From solving complex payment challenges to discovering a love for archery, Resh brings the same precision, curiosity, and energy to everything he does.

Let’s dive into his journey, his favorite Primer moments, and what inspires him.

What do you do at Primer?

I help merchants unlock the full potential of their payment strategies—whether it’s boosting conversion rates, expanding into new markets, or solving operational challenges. Payments are complex, but that’s what makes them exciting. My passion lies in sharing knowledge and building relationships, empowering others to navigate this ever-evolving space with confidence, and turning challenges into opportunities for growth.

What’s the best thing about working at Primer?

Hands down, the people. I work with incredibly smart, driven, and innovative colleagues from all over the world.

Also, Primer is fast-paced and constantly evolving. We’re always implementing the latest technology, and no two days are the same. It keeps things exciting.

You’ve been here for four years—any standout moments?

So many! One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been building relationships with the world’s biggest brands, helping them see Primer’s vision, and guiding them toward a better approach to payments. Nothing is more exciting than that moment when they realize Primer can positively impact their business.

Another moment that stands out was a workation in Portugal, where I connected with teams I don’t usually collaborate with—finance, engineering, and operations. We had an intense brainstorming session that went so deep I scribbled ideas on my hand. It was one of those moments that reminded me just how many brilliant minds are at Primer.

What exactly is a workation?

Since we’re a remote company with a global team, workations let us connect in different locations to collaborate, plan, and have some fun. It’s an incredible way to mix strategy and teamwork with adventure. I’ve been lucky to work in some amazing places like Hong Kong, Dubai, and Istanbul while brainstorming big ideas and building connections with my colleagues.

Which of Primer’s values resonates with you most?

“Distributed yet Unified.” Even though we’re remote, we work seamlessly together. The culture at Primer is incredibly collaborative, fast-moving, and aligned—everyone is working towards the same goal. I recently collaborated with three different teams on a project, and it was amazing to see everyone come together to win a big deal.

Despite being remote, we’re super connected. We have Slack channels for everything—F1, gaming, board games, books, Lego, planes—you name it. If you have a passion, there’s a community for it here. Plus, our co-working meetups allow us to connect in person, brainstorm, and build even stronger relationships.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone joining Primer?

Buckle up! Primer is high-growth, fast-moving, and always at the forefront of payments innovation.

If you love solving complex challenges, working with the best minds in the industry, and being part of something that’s evolving every day, you’ll thrive here.

What do you do outside of work?

Resh: A mix of things!

  • Archery: I picked it up in 2023, and I’m obsessed.
  • Gaming: I built my own gaming rig and dip in and out of Diablo 4 and Warzone.
  • Travel: My wife and I love exploring new places, trying new food, and experiencing new cultures. We’ve visited 42 countries and counting.
  • Family and pets: I have a lively eight-year-old and a crazy cat named Gizmo.

Any quirky facts your colleagues might not know?

I once spent time in a Nepalese monastery doing a silent meditation retreat with Tibetan monks. If you know me, you’ll understand why staying silent for days was an extreme challenge!

Are there any productivity hacks you swear by?

I time-block everything—even emails—to stay focused and avoid distractions. I also rely on old-school to-do lists; anything I don’t finish today becomes my top priority tomorrow. One thing I’m constantly working on is minimizing context-switching throughout the day—it’s a game-changer for staying productive and keeping momentum.
